The Function and Role of the Axle

Transmitting torque: The most crucial function of the half shaft is to transfer the torque distributed by the differential to the driving wheels, causing the wheels to rotate and thereby propelling the car forward.
Adapting to suspension movement: During the vehicle's operation, the wheels will move up and down along with the road undulations and the suspension's work. The existence of the universal joint enables the half shaft to extend and change its angle, to adapt to these movements, ensuring the smoothness of power transmission and avoiding the breakage of the axle.
Adaptive Steering: For front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive vehicles, the front wheels will change direction during steering. The outer universal joint enables the wheels to maintain power transmission at different steering angles, allowing the vehicle to turn smoothly.
Bearings for part of the load (semi-floating half shaft): Depending on the support type of the half shaft, the semi-floating half shaft (half floating half shaft) not only transmits torque but also needs to bear part of the vertical load and bending moment transmitted by the wheels.
